Cranmore Veterinary Centre first started treating animals in 1886. In those days it was a large animal practice with strong links to the local farming community. It remained a largely farm practice until the mid 1970s when Mr. Twizzell, MRCVS retired. The practice then was purchased by Mr. Coles, FRCVS and the emphasis was changed from treating large animals to treating companion pets, including birds and other exotics. Cranmore soon became a leading referral centre for birds. In the 1993 Geoff Skerritt took over as the Principal and added neurology to the referral offerings.

Major changes took place in the practice in 2004 with the acquisition of the Upton Veterinary Surgery and the opening of ChesterGates Referral Hospital which now handles all of the referral and the ‘out-of-hours’ emergency work.
